How we got here. On Friday, Kate Middleton, or Catherine, the Princess of Wales (Princess Kate), revealed that she has cancer. This very briefly sent the internet into free fall, with many users admitting they feel more than a little gross about all the memes and conspiracy theories they've been sharing about her for the last two months. I say "brief" because many users have since pivoted and are now just sharing different conspiracy theories about Kate. (more)

A New York appeals court on Monday paused for 10 days a massive civil business fraud judgment against Donald Trump — and sharply reduced to $175 million the bond amount he will have to post to obtain a longer stay of that award. The ruling came the same day New York Attorney General Letitia James could start seizing the former president’s real estate assets and bank accounts to satisfy a $454 million and rising judgment after he failed to obtain an appeal bond. James is prevented from doing so — for now — due to the order from the five-judge panel in Manhattan Supreme Court’s appellate division, which did not give a reason for cutting the bond threshold by about 60%. WritingSlowly: Walter Benjamin on the obsolete book. ...the book is already an obsolete mediation between two different index card file systems. For everything essential is found in the index box of the researcher who wrote it, and the scholar who studies it assimilates it in his own card file.” Attested Auditor of Books, in One Way Street (1928). Walter Bendix Schönflies Benjamin (/ˈbɛnjəmɪn/; German: [ˈvaltɐ ˈbɛnjamiːn] ⓘ;[7] 15 July 1892 – 26 September 1940[8]) was a German Jewish philosopher, cultural critic, media theorist, and essayist. An eclectic thinker who combined elements of German idealism, Romanticism, Western Marxism, Jewish mysticism, and Neo-Kantianism, Benjamin made enduring and influential contributions to aesthetic theory, literary criticism (litcrit), and historical materialism. He was associated with the Frankfurt School, and also maintained formative friendships with thinkers such as playwright Bertolt Brecht and Kabbalah scholar Gershom Scholem. He was related to German political theorist and philosopher Hannah Arendt through her first marriage to Benjamin's cousin Günther Anders though the friendship between Arendt and Benjamin outlasted her marriage to Anders. Both Arendt and Anders were students of Martin Heidegger, whom Benjamin considered a nemesis. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Benjamin
